Our 15 Minutes Have Begun!

Joselin and I have had the most amazing week or so since the book's release. I, personally, headed to the bookstore the day it came out, camera phone poised ready to take the first pic of copies of the book on the shelves. But low and behold, my Borders had only one lone Good Girl's Guide! (Not sure whether that means people have been buying it, or that the store only stocked numero uno.) I was disappointed. I thought, no need to take a picture—that's what it looks like sitting on my shelf at home!

My day picked up later on when one of my friends called me from her local bookstore saying, "Elena, you're gonna think I'm crazy. I saw your book—and started crying!" Happy tears of course. Her store had five copies. Whoo hoo!
There were lots more congratulatory phone calls, emails and Facebook messages. (It's amazing to have so much support! Thanks everyone.) The best email I got was one from a friend who happened to be walking past the B&N on Fifth Avenue and 18th Street in New York and saw the book displayed in the window—with photos of Jos and me! Direct quote from the friend: "I didn't know you were famous!" Well, we're totally not. That was the one bookstore in the entire world that probably has the book in the window—because we're having a signing there on Thursday—but hey, I'll take it. Thank you B&N!

Oh, and after that email, I had to go check out that window. It was pretty awesome, all decorated with shiny stars. I can't believe people walking down Fifth Avenue will look in a display window and see us! Inside the store, they also had a table set up with more copies, and flyers (also with our pictures) for people to take. As I was walking through, I happened to see Paul Giamatti shopping for books—yes the guy from Sideways! I couldn't help but wonder whether he noticed the book! (What is it with this book and minor celeb sightings?)

Hilarious. Anyway, please come to our book signing on Thursday, June 26 at 6 pm—you might see Paul Giamatti. But at the very least, you'll see us, and we're ... almost ... famous...

We Love LA!

Saturday, 7 June 2008 12:34 by elenamauer

Our publishers jetted us off to LA to sign books at BEA, a huge book expo. Everyone seemed excited about The Good Girl’s Guide to Living in Sin and were even picking up copies for their sisters, friends and daughters!

We spotted some pretty cool authors, including Anne Rice, who ran out of copies of her latest book to sign for us, but seemed so sweet and apologetic. Also on our radar: Omarosa, one of the Skinny Bitch authors and the PC guy from the Mac commercials.  Okay, so those three aren’t exactly the biggest celebs out there, but we weren’t sticking around too long. We were dying to hit the town!

Plus, we had our dose of real celebrity spotting while we were strolling around Venice Beach. Paul Rudd and Jason Segel were being filmed for a movie about thirty feet from where we were meeting a friend for brunch. If we were home in New York, we probably would have breezed right past. But because we were out-of-towners we totally gawked and took pictures.

Oh, and one of the best things about BEA? The free books!

We had so many that we left some behind with our LA pals. But these ones made it on the plane and then back home with me.

Hmm... now what to read first...?
